Prior to founding cowanhouse Jack had been thinking about healthy homes, energy efficiency, and environmentally conscious building for decades. As he learned more about building science, the environmental impact of human behavior, and the home building industry, Jack realized that there was an urgent need for evidence-based, scientifically grounded, yet realistic, approaches to addressing these issues. Since 2001, there have been many developments supporting the increasing necessity of integrating healthy home, energy efficient, and environmentally conscious approaches in home building and design. Every day brings news headlines discussing our dependence on oil, the threat that global warming poses to the future of our civilization, and the impact of the environment on human health. While these dismal events support the truth of Jack’s early vision, the widespread publicity on these topics has finally produced sufficient awareness among the general public that all those involved in home design, remediation, and construction must pause and take note. Given our founder’s long-standing passion for the environment, his broad training and expertise in management and construction, and his specific focus on healthy, energy efficient, and environmentally conscious home building, Cowanhouse is uniquely poised to assist homeowners, builders, architects, and designers in every aspect of successful home creation.
