Performance homes

Performance home means that your home is optimized for comfort, energy efficiency, and reduced negative environmental impact.

Attributes of a high performance house:

  • Simply put a high performance home requires less resources to operate (heat, cool, light, etc.) compared to a standard home.
  • The construction of a high performance home also requires less material resources because of optimization procedures.
  • The high performance home is designed to be sustainable (live indefinitely) with little maintenance.
  • The high performance home is designed to provide the most comfortable indoor environment possible.

The net result of building/renovating to a high performance house standard includes:

  • Greatly reduced operational cost (heating, cooling, lighting, etc.) for the life of the home
  • Minimized maintenance
  • Minimized environmental impact to Earth, both in construction and operation
  • Greater home value

The myth that high performance housing is unaffordable. Many times home purchasers consider acquisition cost alone, and fail to evaluate the total housing cost which includes significant operational costs over the life of the dwelling.  In most projects, the high performance home will start its payback the first month of occupancy.  The total cost of ownership, or your total cost of the home operation, maintenance, mortgage combined, is less than you would have paid for a standard low performance home.  Again, for the life of the home.
